If you like tips that keep you healthier, check out these tips that the Kent Chiropractor team has put together to keep you safe during the holidays. 1. Take care when going for long rides. Travel is a part of most people's plans during the holidays, and that means long hours sitting in a bus, plane or car.

Spinal stiffness and pain is the end result. Try to stretch, walk or just stand up and move to prevent the pain and stiffness from setting in. Make sure seat cushions are in good condition, and use a support pillow for your back. These things will help you be comfortable during long periods of sitting.

You may want to consider wearing an adhesive heat patch to help keep muscles loose and help fight off that stiffness for at least part of your travel time.

2. Use caution in a new place. If you are visiting family you have not seen in a long time be mindful of their home and how it is set up.

Since everything is different from what you are used to, it is much easier to trip and fall when you forget about a throw rug on the floor or an end table by the couch. Environmental changes can also be problematic when you travel long distances. Ice, freezing snow or even rain can cause hazards you are not accustomed to when you are out walking or traveling. Just be careful, watch where you are going and move slower than you would at home.

3. Do not forget to take your supply and medical bag with you when you travel to another place. Make sure you have your pain pills and normal medications. Include your cane and walker in case you have a flare-up or need some extra help. If you use a back brace, be sure to wear it. Upon arrival, let your family and friends know that you need some time to relax and stretch.

Pampering yourself for the first hour after your long flight or drive can make it so you can better enjoy the rest of the trip so bring what you need to bring and take care of yourself!
